Tic Tac Toe

The following instructions are from the Exploratorium site.  The site allows you to play Tic Tac Toe online against a computer.
  1. The game is played on a grid that's 3 squares by 3 squares.
  2. You are X, your friend (or the computer in this case) is O. Players take turns putting their marks in empty squares.
  3. The first player to get 3 of her marks in a row (up, down, across, or diagonally) is the winner.
  4. When all 9 squares are full, the game is over. If no player has 3 marks in a row, the game ends in a tie.

Dots and Boxes

Here are the instructions on how to play dots and boxes from WikiHow.
  1. Create a grid of dots at least four dots wide and four dots long.
  2. Take turns drawing one horizontal or vertical line to connect two dots. Each line simply goes from one dot to it's neighboring dot either above, below, left, or right. There are no diagonal lines.
  3. Draw the 4th wall of a box to win it for yourself. Each box is worth one point, so write your initial in the completed box to score it for yourself.
  4. Take an extra turn if you complete a box. Once you've finished a box, drawing the 4th line, you get to keep going.
  5. Count up each player's number of boxes once the whole board is covered. The player with the largest number of boxes win.
Try playing Dots and boxes online if you want to play on your own or if you want to learn the rules.

Virtual BINGO

Here are the instructions on how to play virtual BINGO:
  1. Click on the Virtual Link (your teacher will provide this) to get a virtual bingo card. Hold your iPad vertically to see the entire card.
  2. Tap on "Free Space" to mark an X on that space.
  3. The caller will read out a letter-number combination.
  4. Tap on the number on your scorecard if you have that letter and number combination. Note: if you make a mistake, just tap again on the X and it will go away.
  5. Continue playing until someone gets 5 chips in a row on their scorecard.
  6. Shout "Bingo” if you get 5 squares in a row.  Tell your teacher your "Bingo Card ID" to verify your win.

They describe each bird, so you can use the Merlin Bird app to identify them.  The profits of the book were donated to support the park.  You can listen to Ms. Lockwood read the book here.
