The ACDS Reading and Response Journal project is "required summer work". Students may choose to keep either a hard copy journal, an online blog, or a combination of the two. The requirements are the same for blogging or journaling; it is just the format that is different. If you prefer to keep a journal, hard copy journals will be provided for every student and teacher.

Why Summer Reading is Required Summer Work
The reason why the ACDS Reading and Response Journal project is "required summer work" is to encourage wide reading, writing, thinking, noticing and creating. Reading develops the mind. It is how we discover new things. And it develops the imagination. Writing helps you to become a good communicator. Like the development of all skills, maintaining and improving intellectual skills requires extensive practice. Studies show that the best readers read the most and poor readers read the least. The best way to improve fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, word knowledge, and understanding of syntax and grammar is to read and write regularly. The more the better! This is a great way to introduce yourself to your teachers and classmates for next year as well. |
Why Choose Blogging
It's a fun way to stay connected this summer with classmates and friends through the "Summer Reading Blog"!
