This is the first entry of my "About blogging" blog. This entry is called "What is a blog"? A blog is a specific kind of webpage format. You can think of it as an "online journal". Just like a paper journal, you add entries in your journal chronologically. But unlike a journal where the oldest entry is first, an online journal shows you the newest entry first. Why is that? It's because "journals" have been written as books which are read after they are completed and published. In that case you would want to read it from a historical perspective. A blog is designed to be read as blog entries are added. In this case, the format assumes you have already older blog posts, so they put the newest one front-and-center. Unlike journals, blogs are multi-media. That means you can add text, photos and other images, audio, videos, documents, and hyperlinks! Because Blogs are "online", other people can comment and ask questions. Because Blogs are interactive, a single entry can suddenly come to life and generate a lot of conversation. Even a simple blog entry like "There's nothing to do today. I'm bored." might generate a lot of ideas on fun things to do. | Fun Fact: Did you know the word Blog comes from combining the words Web and Log? |
